Reuge music boxes are 100% mechanical and similar to a luxury mechanical watch or clock, Reuge music boxes require periodic servicing. Often times a Reuge music box only requires a service to restore the music box to peak operating performance. Sometimes, a Reuge music box, especially if it is an older model, requires additional effort. Does your music box emit strange squeaking noises or other unpleasant sounds? Similar to a piano, mechanical music boxes have dampers and over time these dampers fail so even if your Reuge music box plays at the proper tempo the sound is not right and that typically means the dampers are bad. Almost all vintage Reuge music boxes for sale do not play properly because they have not been properly serviced yet the seller will state that the music box "plays perfectly" without any video so you can hear what you are buying. Never purchase any music box prior to hearing it play unless you budget for repair or service costs.
